African Champions welcomed home
Two days after sweeping the hearts of all Africans by triumphing at the Africa Youth Championship finals, the Black Satellites were given a rapturous welcome back home.
A large crowd of people applauded the new Under-20 Champions at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Tuesday afternoon.
Black Satellites captain, Andre Ayew was the first to emerge, carrying the trophy ahead of his colleagues and other team officials.
Fans who had been allowed into a waiting zone, managed some photo shots with their heroes.
People lined the streets and in front of shops across the Ghana capital as the bus carrying the national Under-20 inched its way through the surging crowd who had gathered some five hours before the team’s flight touched down at 12:15pm.
President of the Ghana Football Association President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, members of the sport body and Sports Minister-designate, Alhaji Mubarak Muntaka Mohammed met the team on arrival as they took turns in addressing the Black Satellites.
Ghana beat Cameroon 2-0 in Sunday’s final in Kigali to win a third Africa Youth Championship title while striker, Ransford Osei left the tournament with the Golden Boot award after scoring seven goals from five matches.
The Black Satellites’ victory at the Africa Youth Championship had prompted celebrations by millions across Ghana and around the continent.
